As the sole owner of Craftz by Jax, the business arose from me taking early retirement from working as a Manager in Education. I have always been interested in craft from the early age of being taught to knit by my Nan, and have found craft to be a way to escape the stress and pressures of daily life. I enjoy making a variety of crafts which you will see on display at Concept Corner including paper folded flower, string wrapped bottles, decoupaged items and a variety of framed pictures. Craft is very therapeutic and I encourage as many people as I can to take part in some craft activities. I do not stick to one type of crafting as I believe that variety is the spice of life, and I get a great deal of enjoyment in trying and learning new skills in crafting.
Any item made by Craftz by Jax may be adapted to suit the purchaser, for instance, the colour of the background in frames, the colour of folded flowers or the pattern on the coasters.
With the ongoing economic climate and the push for recycling replacing the old “make do and mend”, I try and upcycle objects in my craft like wine and gin bottles. That’s my excuse and I am sticking to it! Having an eye for interior décor has enabled me to customise items to enhance the home environment.
I have also a great mentor in my Mum who at the great age of 86 still crafts which helps to prove that those who are involved in crafting of some kind is beneficial to peoples’ well-being.
Being a qualified teacher enables me to share my skills with other people who are interested in trying new crafts or just honing their skills in crafts they are already involved in, but I also learn things myself from other people and enjoy the camaraderie of the crafting community.
The best compliment that people like your craft is that they are willing to purchase what you have spent time making!
